Hailing from a family of physicians, Sandeep Govindan Nair, MD aspired to continue the family legacy while also pursuing the field in his own right. Intrigued by the use and function of EKGs, he chose to pursue the cardiology route and today specializes in cardiac electro-physiology. Since 2018, Dr. Nair has excelled as a physician at the New Mexico Heart Institute and the University of New Mexico. He builds off earlier experience at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, where he attained his Doctor of Medicine.
To remain abreast of changes and developments to his industry, Dr. Nair maintains affiliation with the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, of which he has also been a peer reviewer of journals. With this sentiment, he considers his most notable achievement has been winning the Best Science Award in publishing “Cardiac Arrest in the Young People,” which he co-authored with his wife.
Looking ahead, Dr. Nair’s goal within the next five years is to progress in clinical trials and advance in electrophysiology. He would also like to establish an electrophysiology fellowship and become a leader in it to train more physicians, or the electrophysiology, and instill the understanding of EKGs. His advice to aspiring physicians is to remain humble, strive to excel, learn from others, and persevere. In his spare time, he enjoys music, playing basketball and ping pong, hiking and traveling with his family.
